As manufacturing software consultants, our team is excited to join manufacturing leaders and businesses from around the nation to celebrate Manufacturing Day today. Friday, October 2, 2020 is the official date but Manufacturing Day is celebrated all month nationwide with local and online events. Click here to register for an event.
Manufacturing Day started in 2012 by the non-profit Manufacturing Institute (MI) which is a part of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). Manufacturers across the country have the opportunity to showcase their operation in a way they see appropriate inviting the their schools, companies, their educators, legislators etc. to witness modern manufacturing and the value manufacturing offers the community.
The goal of Manufacturing Day is to share modern best practices and technology to help manufacturers modernize operations today and prepare for the future. It's critical for modern manufacturers to find and train skilled workers. By 2029, MI estimates there will be a shortage of skilled labor with around 4.6 million job openings. Manufacturing Day is one effort to get the U.S. workforce excited about the manufacturing sector as an attractive career path.
The U.S. has been a global leader in manufacturing. Our innovation in technology effects factory floors around the world. Innovation and production go hand in hand, hence there is a high demand for skilled workers with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills. The gap is widening between finding the skilled workers required to maintain the innovation to gain momentum. This is why celebrating Manufacturing Day and finding skilled workers using these types of events is crucial to the growth of the manufacturing sector.
