5 Ways to Help New Employees Hit the Ground Running With ERP

ERP_trainingHiring new employees is a great sign for business both large and small. It means you’re growing, you can afford to hire additional employees, and the future is a bright one for your organization. While this is indeed an exciting part of business, getting them up to speed on various processes, systems, policies, and procedures can be hectic and time consuming.  This is especially true when it comes to ERP training.

You’re excited to get your new employee going and they too are undoubtedly chomping at the bit to get going in their new position; so it makes sense that nobody really wants to spend too much time on ERP training as it can indeed take time and attention away from other areas. That is exactly why many companies speed through this process, but it’s essential to make sure your new employees are using the system as they are meant to for individual, departmental, and overall company success.

While you will need to invest time into training, you don’t have to spend as much time as you might think. Here are five suggestions to help you get your employees trained quickly but also to ensure they are fully grasping the information and ready to use it on the job.

5 Best Practices for Rapid & Reliable ERP Training

  1. Offer various training formats. Everyone learns differently, so make sure your employees can choose their preferred learning style. For example, classroom training, a series of webinar, online training, etc. If employees can choose how they want to learn, they are more likely to pick it up quickly and be able to apply it. Be sure to ask your software vendor or ERP consultant what options, tools, and resources they have available for you.
  2. If you have a number of new hires, train them as a team. Even if some of them are from different departments, basic training should glance over various areas of the company anyways and will help everyone understand how they’re actions in the system affect other parts of the organization.
  3. Asking employees to train on their own time is a quick way to get them to resist the training and lengthen the process. Nobody wants to spend their lunch hour, breaks, or personal time learning how to use the system, regardless of how excited they are about their new position and contribution to the company.
  4. Train with your own data as it will give your new employees the chance to grow accustomed to your specific data and the information they will be working with in their day-to-day tasks which will help them to hit the ground running in the live system.
  5. Review training regularly! Do not just train employees once and then leave them to their own devices. As with anything, ongoing education is crucial to long term success. Further, your ERP system will likely go through changes as it is upgraded, developed, and enhanced with add-ons or new functionality. All of these are things that everyone, not just your new employees, will need to learn over time.
