In looking for EDI resources to recommend to our clients, I came across this gem by Phyllis K. Sokol. EDI books can be dry and unattractive, but not only will this hardcover book look great in any EDI professional's library, it contains useful information for both the novice and experienced user. Written in nontechnical terms, Ms. Sokol discusses the benefits of EDI, implications for both business and technical staff, its use in various industries as well as its future with regard to electronic commerce. Ms. Sokol, a well known name in EDI circles, also offers a step-by-step plan for implementing the EDI process and throughout the book presents many diagrams and flow charts to help you visualize it.
What I particularly loved about this book is how well it's organized. Most of the chapters have a bulleted list of objectives that give a clear picture of what you can expect from that chapter. The table of contents is also very well organized, allowing you to quickly thumb to whatever EDI topic you want to explore. At the end of the book is very useful glossary and of course, an index as well. In addition, the end of each chapter offers a brief summary that highlights the main points that were covered. Another point worth mentioning is that she offers real world examples of the EDI process in the retail industry, financial industry and government.
